Taking Care of You

It is only when you are at peace within yourself, that you can be at peace within the world ~ Lori Jayne

Mindfulness workshops – Taking Care of You: Body, Mind, Spirit

“Taking Care of You: Body, Mind, Spirit” is a research-based adult program that offers practical strategies and experiences to better deal with stress and managing life’s challenges in healthy ways allowing participants to take better care of themselves and their overall health.

Taking Care of You was developed in 2009 by an interdisciplinary team of University of Missouri Extension faculty, now licensed through the University of Wisconsin-Extension. Lori Jayne Carlson has been certified through UW-Extension facilitator training to teach the program.

The curriculum includes research-based principles and techniques of positive psychology (the study of what causes optimal functioning and well-being) with an emphasis on MINDFULNESS.

The eight-hour* program meets for eight weeks, four weeks or a one weekend retreat in small classes of 5-12 participants. In each session, program participants explore topics through small group discussion, self-reflections and hands-on activities.

Taking Care of You has been assessed by a rigorous program evaluation showing significant improvements in perceived stress levels and health promoting lifestyle behaviors.

Program participants will learn strategies to:

Take better care of all aspects of health — body, mind and spirit.

Become more aware of the mind-body connection and how to use this awareness to improve one’s overall health and feelings of well-being.

Respond with thought versus reacting automatically to life’s stressors.

Discover opportunities in life’s challenges.

Develop healthier habits that can lead to healthier choices.

Find ways to become a happier person.

Simplify one’s life.

Live more in the moment.
